Commercial General Liability– An insurance policy issued to business organizations to protect them against bodily injury (BI) and property damage (PD) arising out of premises, operations, products and completed operations; and personal and advertising injury.
Commercial Property– An insurance policy that insures against damage to buildings and contents due to a covered cause of loss such as fire. The policy can also cover loss of income or increase in expenses.
Business Owner Policy– A package policy provides both property and liability coverage for eligible small businesses. BOPS are written on special coverage forms that are typically similar to similar standalone property and liability policies.
Commercial Package Policy– A package policy providing both property and liability coverage for eligible businesses. CPP are written on special coverage forms that are typically similar to similar standalone property and liability policies.
Equipment Breakdown Insurance– Coverage for a loss due to mechanical or electrical breakdown of most types of equipment. Coverage can apply to the cost of repair and or the replacement of the equipment and other property damage as a result of the breakdown. Sometimes known as “Boiler & Machinery”.
Workers Compensation and Employers Liability– An insurance policy that provides coverage for an employer’s two main exposures arising out of injuries sustained by employees. Part One of the policy covers the employer’s statutory liabilities under workers compensation laws. Part Two of the policy covers liability arising out of employees’ work-related injuries that do not fall under the workers compensation statute.
Commercial Auto– An insurance policy providing coverage for bodily injury, property damage, medical payments from exposures arising out of the operation of automobiles and trucks. Policy may also provide comprehensive and collision coverage for covered vehicles. Policy can also cover exposure for vehicles that are hired, not owned and or operated by the business.
Umbrella/Excess Liability– An insurance policy that may provide additional coverage and or increases the limits of underlying policies. These policies will often increase the underlying policy limits increments of $1,000,000. For an example an Umbrella/Excess Liability policy may provide $5,000,000 in coverage excess of underlying $1,000,000 Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy. In essence there would be $6,000,000 in coverage ($5mil excess over the $1mil underlying CGL).
Inland Marine –An insurance policy providing coverage for most business property such as property in transit over land, certain types of moveable property, instrumentalities of transportation and legal liability exposures of bailees. Many inland marine coverage forms provide coverage without regard to the location of the covered property; these are sometimes called “floater” policies. As a group, inland marine coverage forms are generally broader than property coverage forms.
